SEV Biblia, Chapter 8:32
y conoceris la Verdad, y la Verdad os libertar.
Clarke's Bible Commentary - John 8:32
Verse 32. Ye shall know the truth] Shall have a constant experimental knowledge of its power and efficacy. And the truth shall make you free.] It was a maxim of the Jews, "That no man was free, but he who exercised himself in the meditation of the law." No man is truly free, but he in whose heart the power of sin is destroyed, and who has received the Spirit of adoption, through which he cries, Abba! Father! See Romans viii. 15. The bondage of sin is the most grievous bondage; and freedom from its guilt and influence is the greatest liberty.
John Gill's Bible Commentary
Ver. 32. And ye shall know the truth , etc.] Either the truth of the Gospel, the truth as it is in Jesus; meaning, that they should have a larger knowledge of it, while others are ever learning, and never come to the knowledge of the truth; but the spirit of truth should lead them into all truth, and cause them to grow and increase in Gospel light and knowledge; or Jesus himself, who is the way, the truth, and the life; and the sense is, that they should know more of him, of the dignity of his person, of the nature and usefulness of his offices; of the efficacy of his blood, the excellency of his righteousness, and the fulness of his grace, and that for themselves: and the truth shall make you free ; from ignorance and error, and the prejudices of education, under which the whole nation laboured, and from the thraldom of the law.
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 30-36 - Such power attended our Lord's words, that many were convinced, an professed to believe in him. He encouraged them to attend his teaching rely on his promises, and obey his commands, notwithstanding all temptations to evil. Thus doing, they would be his disciples truly; an by the teaching of his word and Spirit, they would learn where their hope and strength lay. Christ spoke of spiritual liberty; but carna hearts feel no other grievances than those that molest the body, an distress their worldly affairs. Talk to them of their liberty an property, tell them of waste committed upon their lands, or damage don to their houses, and they understand you very well; but speak of the bondage of sin, captivity to Satan, and liberty by Christ; tell of wrong done to their precious souls, and the hazard of their eterna welfare, then you bring strange things to their ears. Jesus plainl reminded them, that the man who practised any sin, was, in fact, slave to that sin, which was the case with most of them. Christ in the gospel offers us freedom, he has power to do this, and those who Christ makes free are really so. But often we see persons disputin about liberty of every kind, while they are slaves to some sinful lust.
