VERSE (16) -
Mr 8:11 Lu 5:30-32

SEV Biblia, Chapter 9:16

Y pregunt a los escribas: ¿Qu disputis con ellos?

John Gill's Bible Commentary

Ver. 16. And he asked the
Scribes , etc..] The Vulgate Latin renders it, he asked them; and the Ethiopic version, he said unto them; meaning either that he asked the disciples when he came to them, or else the people that ran to salute him; but the Syriac, Arabic, and Persic versions read, the Scribes; seeing them about his disciples, in close debate with them, and running hard upon them, he asks them, what question ye with them ? what is it ye seek and require of them? what is your dispute with them? what is your debate about? The Vulgate Latin version reads, what question ye among you? among themselves, and one another; and so Beza's most ancient copy.

Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 14-29 - The
father of the suffering youth reflected on the want of power in the disciples; but Christ will have him reckon the disappointment to the want of faith. Very much is promised to our believing. If thou cans believe, it is possible that thy hard heart may be softened, the spiritual diseases may be cured; and, weak as thou art, thou mayest be able to hold out to the end. Those that complain of unbelief, must loo up to Christ for grace to help them against it, and his grace will be sufficient for them. Whom Christ cures, he cures effectually. But Sata is unwilling to be driven from those that have been long his slaves and, when he cannot deceive or destroy the sinner, he will cause his all the terror that he can. The disciples must not think to do their work always with the same ease; some services call for more tha ordinary pains.
