Y si tu pie te hace caer, crtalo: mejor te es entrar a la vida cojo, que teniendo dos pies ser echado en la Gehena, al fuego que no puede ser apagado;
John Gill's Bible Commentary
Ver. 45. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off , etc..] Such who are that to men, as the foot is to the body, the support of them through whom they have their maintenance and subsistence; and yet these, if they are a means of causing them to stumble and tail, or of leading out of the ways of Christ, and off from him, their company is to be shunned and abstained from; it is better for thee to enter halt into life . The Vulgate Latin version reads, eternal life, which is undoubtedly intended by life; and so reads the Cambridge copy of Beza's; and the meaning is, that it is better to go alone without such company into heaven, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched ; (see Gill on Mark 9:44).
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 41-50 - It is repeatedly said of the wicked, Their worm dieth not, as well as The fire is never quenched. Doubtless, remorse of conscience and kee self-reflection are this never-dying worm. Surely it is beyond compar better to undergo all possible pain, hardship, and self-denial here and to be happy for ever hereafter, than to enjoy all kinds of worldl pleasure for a season, and to be miserable for ever. Like the sacrifices, we must be salted with salt; our corrupt affections must be subdued and mortified by the Holy Spirit. Those that have the salt of grace, must show they have a living principle of grace in their hearts which works out corrupt dispositions in the soul that would offend God or our own consciences __________________________________________________________________
