John Gill's Bible Commentary
Ver. 45. And he went into the temple , etc.] Being come into the city, he alighted from the colt he rode on, and having committed it to the care of a proper person to return it to the owner, he went up directly to the temple, of which he was the Lord and proprietor, and where he had some work to do the few days he had to live. And began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought ; that traded in sheep, and oxen, and doves; (see John 2:15 Matthew 21:12). The Ethiopic version adds here, as there, and overthrew, the tables of the money changers, and the seats of them that sold doves.

Verses 41-48 - Who can behold the holy Jesus, looking forward to the miseries tha awaited his murderers, weeping over the city where his precious bloo was about to be shed, without seeing that the likeness of God in the believer, consists much in good-will and compassion? Surely thos cannot be right who take up any doctrines of truth, so as to be hardened towards their fellow-sinners. But let every one remember, tha though Jesus wept over Jerusalem, he executed awful vengeance upon it Though he delights not in the death of a sinner, yet he will surel bring to pass his awful threatenings on those who neglect his salvation. The Son of God did not weep vain and causeless tears, no for a light matter, nor for himself. He knows the value of souls, the weight of guilt, and how low it will press and sink mankind. May he then come and cleanse our hearts by his Spirit, from all that defiles May sinners, on every side, become attentive to the words of truth an salvation __________________________________________________________________

Robertson's NT Word Studies
19:45 {Began to cast out} (erxato ekballein). So #Mr 11:15 whereas #Mt 21:12 has simply "he cast out." See Mark and Matthew for discussion of this second cleansing of the temple at the close of the public ministry in relation to the one at the beginning in #Joh 2:14-22. There is nothing gained by accusing John or the Synoptics of a gross chronological blunder. There was abundant time in these three years for all the abuses to be revived.
