Ver. 23. And Jesus looked round about , etc..] To see what effect the discourse he had with the young man, and the consequence of it, had upon his disciples; as also to raise their attention to what he was about, to say: and saith unto his disciples, how hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! the Gospel dispensation, by embracing the doctrines, and submitting to the ordinances of it; (see Gill on Matthew 19:23).
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 23-31 - Christ took this occasion to speak to his disciples about the difficulty of the salvation of those who have abundance of this world Those who thus eagerly seek the wealth of the world, will never rightl prize Christ and his grace. Also, as to the greatness of the salvatio of those who have but little of this world, and leave it for Christ The greatest trial of a good man's constancy is, when love to Jesu calls him to give up love to friends and relatives. Even when gainer by Christ, let them still expect to suffer for him, till they reac heaven. Let us learn contentment in a low state, and to watch agains the love of riches in a high one. Let us pray to be enabled to par with all, if required, in Christ's service, and to use all we ar allowed to keep in his service.

10:23 {Looked round about} (peribleyamenos). Another picture of the looks of Jesus and in Mark alone as in #3:5,34. "To see what impression the incident had made on the Twelve" (Bruce). "When the man was gone the Lord's eye swept round the circle of the Twelve, as he drew for them the lesson of the incident" (Swete). {How hardly} (pws duskolws).
