SEV Biblia, Chapter 14:49
Cada día estaba con vosotros enseando en el Templo, y no me tomasteis; pero es así, para que se cumplan las Escrituras.
John Gill's Bible Commentary
Ver. 49. I was daily with you in the temple , etc..] That is, for several days past; ever since he made his public entry into Jerusalem: teaching ; the people, in a public manner: and ye took me not ; did not attempt to lay hands on him, seize him, and carry him away; which he signifies might have been easily done; (see Gill on Matthew 26:55). But the Scriptures must be fulfilled : which spoke of the betraying him by Judas; and of their taking him in this private and secret manner; and of the flight of the disciples from him next mentioned; (see Gill on Matthew 26:56).
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 43-52 - Because Christ appeared not as a temporal prince, but preache repentance, reformation, and a holy life, and directed men's thoughts and affections, and aims to another world, therefore the Jewish ruler sought to destroy him. Peter wounded one of the band. It is easier to fight for Christ than to die for him. But there is a great differenc between faulty disciples and hypocrites. The latter rashly and withou thought call Christ Master, and express great affection for him, ye betray him to his enemies. Thus they hasten their own destruction.
