Clarke's Bible Commentary - Luke 22:50 Verse 50. Cut off his right ear.] See the note on Matt. xxvi. 51.
John Gill's Bible Commentary Ver. 50. And one of them smote the servant of the high priest , etc.] The person that drew his sword, and performed this daring action, not waiting for an answer from Christ, was Peter, and the high priest's servant, that he smote, was Malchus; both which we learn from ( John 18:10) and cut off his right ear ; he aimed, no doubt, at his head, but missing his blow, took off his right ear. It is very likely, that this servant was very busy and forward to lay hold on Christ, and showed much virulence, and great malignity; and therefore Peter singled him out, and levelled his blow at him.
Matthew Henry Commentary Verses 47-53 - Nothing can be a greater affront or grief to the Lord Jesus, than to be betrayed by those who profess to be his followers, and say that the love him. Many instances there are, of Christ's being betrayed by thos who, under the form of godliness, fight against the power of it. Jesu here gave an illustrious example of his own rule of doing good to thos that hate us, as afterwards he did of praying for those tha despitefully use us. Corrupt nature warps our conduct to extremes; we should seek for the Lord's direction before we act in difficul circumstances. Christ was willing to wait for his triumphs till his warfare was accomplished, and we must be so too. But the hour and the power of darkness were short, and such the triumphs of the wicke always will be.

Vincent's NT Word Studies 50. The servant. See on Matt. xxvi. 51.His right ear. Lit., his ear, the right one. See on Matt. xxvi. 51; and compare Mark xiv. 47. Both Matthew and Mark use diminutives.
22:50 {His right ear} (to ous autou to dexion). #Mark 14:47; Mt 26:51 do not mention "right," but Luke the Physician does. #Joh 18:10 follows Luke in this item and also adds the names of Peter and of Malchus since probably both were dead by that time and Peter would not be involved in trouble.
