VERSE (60) -
Lu 15:32 Eph 2:1,5 1Ti 5:6 Re 3:1

SEV Biblia, Chapter 9:60

Y Jess le dijo: Deja que los muertos entierren a sus muertos; y t, ve, y anuncia el Reino de Dios.

John Gill's Bible Commentary

Ver. 60.
Jesus said unto him, let the dead bury the dead , etc.] (See Gill on Matthew 8:22). but go thou and preach the kingdom of God ; that the kingdom of heaven is at hand, the Gospel dispensation is now ushering in, and the kingdom of the Messiah is setting up; go and publish the things concerning the kingdom of grace, which lies not in outward rites and ceremonies, but in righteousness and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost; and declare the things relating to the kingdom of glory, and eternal life and happiness; assert, that unless a man is born again, and has a better righteousness than his own, he is neither fit for, nor has he a right unto everlasting bliss.

Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 57-62 - Here is one that is forward to follow
Christ, but seems to have bee hasty and rash, and not to have counted the cost. If we mean to follo Christ, we must lay aside the thoughts of great things in the world Let us not try to join the profession of Christianity, with seeking after worldly advantages. Here is another that seems resolved to follo Christ, but he begs a short delay. To this man Christ first gave the call; he said to him, Follow me. Religion teaches us to be kind an good, to show piety at home, and to requite our parents; but we mus not make these an excuse for neglecting our duty to God. Here i another that is willing to follow Christ, but he must have a littl time to talk with his friends about it, and to set in order his household affairs, and give directions concerning them. He seemed to have worldly concerns more upon his heart than he ought to have, and he was willing to enter into a temptation leading him from his purpose of following Christ. No one can do any business in a proper manner, if he is attending to other things. Those who begin with the work of God must resolve to go on, or they will make nothing of it. Looking back leads to drawing back, and drawing back is to perdition. He only tha endures to the end shall be saved __________________________________________________________________

Vincent's NT Word Studies

60. Their dead (touv eautwn nekrouv). As Rev., their own dead.

Preach (diaggelle). Publish abroad, as Rev. dia, throughout all regions.

61, 62. Peculiar to Luke.

Robertson's NT Word Studies

9:60 {Leave the dead to bury their own dead} (afes tous nekrous qayai tous heautwn nekrous). this paradox occurs so in #Mt 8:22. The explanation is that the spiritually dead can bury the literally dead. For such a quick change in the use of the same words see #Joh 5:21-29 (spiritual resurrection from Sin in #Joh 5:21-27, bodily resurrection from the grave, #Joh 5:28,29) and #Joh 11:25f. The harshness of this proverb to the scribe probably is due to the fact that he was manifestly using his aged father as an excuse for not giving Christ active service. {But go thou and publish abroad the kingdom of God} (su de apelqwn diaggelle ten basileian tou qeou). The scribe's duty is put sharply (but do qou, su de). Christ called him to preach, and he was using pious phrases about his father as a pretext. Many a preacher has had to face a similar delicate problem of duty to father, mother, brothers, sisters and the call to preach. this was a clear case. Jesus will help any man called to preach to see his duty. Certainly Jesus does not advocate renunciation of family duties on the part of preachers.
